    What is REAC?

The REAC (Roland Ethernet Audio Communication) protocol is a low latency, high quality audio transport protocol used in RSS Digital Snake and RSS V-Mixer Systems.  Up to 40 channels of audio can be sent via the REAC protocol on a single CAT5e cable or Fiber Optic. REAC also allows the Digital Snake's signal to be "split" to as many positions as required such as monitor, broadcast and recording splits using the RSS S-4000-SP or any standard gigabit Ethernet switch.  This protocol also allows RSS Digital Snake and Digital V-Mixing System users to record 40 channels of audio into a PC on a single Ethernet connection.

What is the SONAR REAC Recording System?

The SONAR REAC Recording System when used in conjunction with the RSS V-Mixing System provides the most comprehensive live recording, mixing, mastering and delivery product available.  This is the next phase in product development of the REAC driver, which Cakewalk engineered for Roland as a way for users to record from their Digital Snake/V-Mixing System directly into SONAR.  The SONAR REAC Recording System includes:

    • SONAR 7 Producer Edition
    • REAC Technology Driver
    • Cakewalk SPS-66 FireWire audio interface
    • SONAR Templates
    • Users Guides

    How does it work?

The REAC protocol provides up to 40 channels of audio to be sent via a single CAT5e Ethernet cable or Fiber Optic. The REAC driver, developed by Cakewalk, allows a digital split from the RSS® V-Mixer or Digital Snake Systems to be connected directly to a PC via a single Gigabit Ethernet connection. The REAC Driver allows up-to 40 channels of audio being transmitted over REAC to be recorded into Cakewalk SONAR 7 Producer Edition as discrete audio channels.  A Cakewalk SPS-66 FireWire audio interface is provided as a confidence monitoring output for use during the recording of the REAC channels and as a professional audio interface that can also be used for the editing and mixing of the project in SONAR 7.
